Personal Commentary
One thing we liked about the book was that although we weren't given a lot of personal information about the main character, the Narrator, we still understood the struggles he was going through and understood what his life was like compared to others. One thing we did not like about the book was that it took the main character a long time to figure out what kind of person he was. Throughout the book, he continuously listened to what others said and never thought for himself. One thing we could change about the story would be at the beginning of the book when the narrator is thrown into a boxing ring and was forced fight other African Americans. We think it is unfair and inhumane that the Narrator was tricked, he was told that he was going to give a speech but ended up having to fight before he could talk. We would recommend this book for others to read because it gives the public a perspective of the hardships African Americans faced in the early to mid 1900s.
